Project: Steam Engine using an Egg Shell
We all know that James Watt was renowned for the improvements of the Thomas Savery and Newcomen's steam engine. Today we will also try to make a steam powered boat. The basic parts of our steam engine are a heat source and a boiler.
We all know that James Watt was renowned for the improvements of the Thomas Savery and Newcomen's steam engine. Today we will also try to make a steam powered boat. The basic parts of our steam engine are a heat source and a boiler.
An egg shell is used to make the boiler and a small candle as heat source. Both are placed on the boat. When the water inside the egg shell boiler will be heat up to the boiling point lots of steam will be generated and will flow out backward through a small hole/ nozzle. As per Newton’s third law the boat will move forward. More the heat, more steam pressure inside the boiler and the boat will run faster. See the video below for step by step instruction.
